Cycling advice 11 from 'The Master':
Which of these should I be taking ? Power bars ? Power gels? Pre-training energy drinks? Post training protein drinks? Energy powders in water bottle? etc The answer of course is "none of the above". You are not training for the Olympics nor the Giro, and taking them will be of no advantage to you (other than a placebo effect).
A normal sensible balanced diet is fine. On a long training run you might want to carry a bannana and a couple of fig rolls in your back
pocket. That will be enough to prevent you getting the "knock" (what marathon runners call "hitting the wall"). "water" is the best thing to put into your water bottle. The trick is to drink regularily from it; don't wait until you are thirsty.
Your challenge this week is to get out a second time. Once to do a 30-35, and then a second time to get around your personal 1 hour (12 - 15 mile ) circuit.
